Spring Cleaning

There always comes a time when your hard drive, mp3 player, your memory card, USB drive, etc gets filled up and your not sure what to do. Do your buy a new hard drive or do you delete files to make space? That is always hard for many people include my self, to delete things you are not sure of whether it is delete your games and all your hard progress or a program you are not sure you might need in the future or you don’t know if you should delete an old program that has not been used in a long time. However, most people do not know what exactly is in their hard drives as many don’t look deep into the storage to see what is there. These people are probably you, who does not know much about computers and are afraid of messing things up. While that is a true possibility, it is manly confined to a few area’s of your computer. I know what it is like so I will give you advice on what not to delete and how to go about deleting things.

Before we start however we will need a few tools for the job so we can maximize the freeing of disk space. What you will need is Windows free registry repair, Advance Windows care V2 personal {Wincare}, Quick Start Up, UltraDefrag, and Unlocker. Wincare is a jack-of-all-trades tool that does spyware removal, fixes registry, cleans up privacy, optimizes programs, and removes junk files. It’s a good all rounder to use but it should not be the only thing you rely on. Quick Start Up is a tool that allows you to customize which programs come on at the start and which one are worthless. You will notice a dramatic increase in start up and with mine, all it took was 40 seconds to start up after I chose my profile.UltraDefrag is a defragmentation tool that is a lot better and you will see a change in the free space when you use it. Unlocker is a tool that will help you delete programs that windows will normal not let you delete because it claims it is use. Don’t worry, those programs are worthless and it will not damage your computer if they are deleted. Here are links.

When it comes to deleting files, you need to think about what your computer is used for. Is it like a command center where you run fax machines, Pc to TV devices, and do Taxes on etc, or is it were you just go on the web and download things. If your computer is used for gaming and not a command center, then you do not need to keep any programs that involve taxes, faxes, scanning as A. They are probably old and out dated when you are doing this, or B. A scanner or printer will probably come with these programs. Then you have to think about the programs that you think you MIGHT use. I emphasize this as what you think you might use, you might not ever use it. So think about it; can you download a similar program off the internet that will be more up to date any time or is it a bought one that you would have to buy again or you can’t find it anymore? Is this program on a disk or can you burn the instalation package to a CD or DVD? Have you even used it recently or know you will use it again very soon or have you even thought about using it? Any program that is on a disk that you rarely ever use can be uninstalled as it will always be on the disk and you can install it anytime. There are plenty of free programs out there that are updated all the time so if it has not been used in a long time then delete it as an update has probably came out already.

Next is thinking about what you want to save. Did it take along time to find those pictures or movies on the internet or is there any typed work you want to save? If so then save those things to a disk then delete them from your computer has they are merely taking up space. Next you should delete all installers that are lying around as they take up space. Now everything pretty much delete able except the folders; Windows, folder with a strange set of number’s, IF-images, and Internet explorer. Remember to explore every folder in your computer as there may be something delete-able that most programs can not find. Also download video player’s like VLC which can play almost every file or a file unpacker program like 7zip which can unpack different types of programs. Programs like these can handle multiple types of files so you can save space on your computer. If you are need an all in one image viewer with basic editing an coverting capabilities then I recommend Xnview which can open a wide variety of images so you can get rid of most image viewers on your computer plus it is simple to use. These are all the advice I can give you as each computer is different but most of this advice applies to any OS out there. Be brave and explore your computer.

Community Colleges

When it comes to college we all want to go to a place to get a good education on the thing we may want to do latter in life. There is nothing wrong in wanting to go to a good school like Yale or Harvard but a good education does not have to be expensive at all as sometimes it can come from a community college. Such a thing is something that many seniors are dealing with while still understanding themselves. A good education does not mean that the school will be recognized are be very fancy at all. It’s all about who the teacher is and what you are getting from it. Going to a community college is a great alternative to a typical college if you don’t feel ready to move away from home yet or you don’t want to spend a lot of money. It’s also a great place if you are not sure what you want to do and you don’t know if you want to go to a specialized college or not.

When you think about a community college, you probably think of it as adult education for old people, or a bad place to get a good education for someone who does well in high school. I used to have those feelings to before I finish my high school education at my local community college but I ended up going to a great place to learn and understand my self. For me the education is not Monday through Friday but it was 3 hour classes once a week. You probably shouldn’t expect to get the “College Experience” a.k.a. parties and organizations but you can have a friend take you to the parties and you can form your own organization at your community college. What I’m trying to say is that a community college and even living at home with your family is a good alternative to a regular college for the first two years. After that, If you want to continue, you will have to go to a regular or specialized college if you want to continue your education. I hope this helps you on deciding were to go to college and relives a bit of stress in your senior year of high school.
